Why do american politicians care so much if Canada has legalized pot? Is it any of their business?
Answer:
Because if Canada legalizes it people will see that marijuana is not the menace that the US government has made it out to be. And that will cause problems for the powers that be.
And you're right, it's none of their business.
Nope
Yes, because they are afraid all their constituants will move to Canada. Loss tax payers = less money for the state. lol.
Has Canada legalized marijuana? I thought they only decrimininalized it.
If they have, it is a matter of public concern/relevance as we share an open border and often compare the two systems of government. Obviously it shouldn't be anything of huge concern, but some people like to get on their soap boxes.
Since so many US citizens are going to Canada for med. They'll start going for the pot too.
It's all about money in the end.
No it's NONE of their business.
I couldn't agree with you more. What we do is our business and ours alone
Canada was looking at decriminalizing marijuana, not legalizing.
And the concern would be that if Canada does it, will it force the American government to do the same, just like when Canada abandoned prohibition in the '20s?
However, my understanding is that the idea was dropped after the last federal election because it had been a Liberal government proposal, but the Conservative government won and abandoned it.
