Strange questions about Juvenile detention life?

I'm writing a paper on juvenile detention centers in the US. What are the conditions like? Do they have to wear jumpsuits all day? Why are all the juvenile inmates wearing only socks while in their cells? Are shoes not allowed to be worn? What's a typical meal like? Are there toilets in the cells or must they hold it? Typical conditions like these I am curious to know.
