Why does sams club ask you if your on state help when applying for a job?

I applied .for a job and was told after I filled out application that they mainly hire people that on state help im not why do they even ask you questions like that on an application

Because they get tax-breaks and incentives from the government for hiring people who are on public assistance to help get those people into the workforce and off of public assistance.


They may be require by law in your state to notify them you are now employed or they may receive benefits or breaks by hiring someone on state aid.
the state may be giving companies tax breaks for hiring people on assistance.
I'm not sure about the rest of the country but in Florida they get a tax credit.
