Can a restaurant manager and a server on staff DATE EACH OTHER?
I just started this job as a server and the Manager, who is young, and I have STRONG chemistry, and clearly like each other. He made a joke that he can't date me because he's my manager and that if he were a server it would be different (or maybe it wasnt a joke lol)
Who's watching anyway? Is it really such a heinous crime??
What are the consequences??
We are in Los Angeles, CA for any who need to know what state it is first...

It's not illegal, but it can be against company policy.
Sure you can but it's never a good idea. He'll have his way and you'll be kicked to the curb
Its not a law, but you can both lose your jobs. Alot of places look down on it because it causes favoritism.

It's usually company policy. The restaurant I worked for would FIRE a manager if they dated, or even hung out with an employee.
The problem isn't so much that you're dating, it usually becomes a problem when you break up because then the company has to deal with sexual harassment lawsuits.
You're just a server, and can get a job ANYWHERE. If you REALLY like this guy, get a job somewhere else!
Never a good idea to date someone you work with, particularly a supervisor. If the relationship sours, chances are good the job will, too.
