the law requires that anything over $10,000 requires documentation. Stupid law. There is no limit on how much you can carry, other than the laws of physics. $10,000,000 weighs a lot!!
It's technically legal to carry as much money as you like, but if a cop notices a huge stack of money on you or in your car he'll probably assume you deal drugs and bring a police dog over to smell the cash. A recent study found that over 95% of U.S. paper currency has drug residue on it, which means he will probably confiscate it and you'll have a hell of a time getting it back. Don't laugh, it's happened in the news before.
As much as you want, but it's much safer to use travellers checks, credit cards, or bank debit cards.
