I am going out with guy who I suspect may have a criminal record. How can I find out without him knowing?

I need to do this undercover, as a very confidential source revealed this info to me

Answers:
Criminal Records are a matter of public record, unless they are sealed for some reason, or part of an FBI file of some sort. Rap sheets themselves are internal documents, and can only be shared with law enforcement agencies.

The problem is compiling all these public records into one source. I think there are a few websites, the following is one of them. I make no claim as to the reliability of the website, nor the legality of their methods, I just found it when I was doing a google search. You have to pay for it.

hire a private investigator
Ask him, If he is a criminal you don't need him, If he is not he should not mind if he really cares for you. If he gets mad for you asking then run away from him as fast as you can.
Just about all the States have a web site now... look under the Dept. of Corrections for the State you think his record is in.
Depending on what state you're in, I believe most have some sort of online circuit court database that covers both civil and criminal matters. All you'd need is 1st and last name...a middle initial or birthdate if its a really popular name.
Go to your local County Court Home Page. There should have a case calendar that you can use to search for past or present cases.
You can go online to your local government website and there is a link to check the criminal records. Or just go to a police station and ask if so and so has a criminal record and they'll tell you. Both way is free.
The best way is to simply ask him.If he lies to you dump him like yesterday.

If your confidential sourse cannot provide the evidenced for what could very well be a serious slanderous offence,I suggest you find yourself some new friends.

A few bucks will get you a "private eye" to tell you very quickly and if you don't want to spend a few bucks on something that may very well be crucial to your future, then you deserve everything you get.
