How do I tell if an image on the web is copyright protected?

I am working on a flyer for a business that I am starting and am wondering how you tell if an image you find on the internet is copyright protected...don't want to get into any trouble! :) Does anyone know if it is legal for me to put the CA state seal on my flyer? Thanks in advance!

Answers:
At the bottom of every website there is copyright information. If you download something off of a web page and then get your flyer all set up the way you want it, then take it to a printer to get it printed the first thing they are going to tell you is that the resolution of the picture isn't high enough for printing. The web has a resolution of 72dpi and 300 dpi is needed to get it printed. As far as the use of the California state seal, you should go to the government website and there will be information as far as the use of the seal. Contact me if you have more questions as I'm a printer and can lead you in the right direction.
