What is drug court and what can I expect if ordered to do it??
I am being convicted to an alcohol related offense in Taylor, Michigan and they are going to assess me for drug court or put me in jail for 30 days.
If I get drug court, does anyone know what I should expect.
Answer:
I'm sure the details are different, but here in Florida, drug court is 6 months.
You have to go to AA meetings 2x a week. Subjected to random urinalysis at *any* time. They call you and you have to drop what you're doing and go down there to pee in a cup.
Each test is $20 and you are tested, initially, 2x a week. After a month I think it goes down to 1x a week.
$150 initial payment and $40 a month after that for 6 months.
FL is a pretty strict state as far as drugs go though. But I would imagine MI drug court would be similar with maybe slightly less severe stipulations.
I know laws vary from state to state but its all pretty much the same. They will court mandate you to have counseling for your addiction, it will probably include random drug screening and possible probation officer or TASK force officer randomly coming to your house to test you. Speak to a lawyer if its your first offense you should be able to plea for counseling and screenings.
Majoring in chemical dependency and addiction counseling
You can expect to pee in a cup on a fairly regular basis, possibly be expected to take breathalyzers should your p.o decide to visit you, see a judge a whole lot more than you would like, be told to participate in rehab, keep your house clean, don't let anyone unapproved by your p.o live with you, if you're not working, expect to find a job in short order, if you have kids, expect a parenting class, the list goes on and on for the various things that drug court can force you to do. It all varies by state, of course, some do what others don't, but in a nutshell, you can expect to not have control over your own life for a minimum of six months.
