I wish to report mirianjones2@yahoo.com as a scammer operating in Senegal.?
recd a few e-mails from this person in Senegal who claims to have been orphaned 4 years ago and is now in a "refugee camp". She found me on a dating site. She claims to be in line for a 39 million dollar inherritance but needs for me to go to Barclays bank in London to claim it for her. Should I pack my bags? (he asks jokingly) Who do I report this person to?
Answers:
this scam has many versions, most say that thy have a relative that passed away and thy have money and need help to get it, thy are phishing for your bank account info to empty it. As far as reporting its not much that can be done, Yahoo TOS will just say to ignore these emails, so just add them to your spam filter and do not answer or talk to these people, if you gave your account info make sure you contact your bank!!
I suggest you just forward the e-mails, complete with headers, to abuse@yahoo.com
This is known as a Nigerian scam because so many of these originate in Nigeria. In addition to reporting it as abuse to the email provider, if you have been a victim of a scam and have suffered loss from it, you can report it to the Secret Service (whose address is listed on the snopes page below). This is a very common scam.
