Is it ethical for the United States to use other countries as battlegrounds?
Many people state that by engaging terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan the American mainland is safer. This statement is indeed a fact, but is it ethical for the United States to use these countries as battlegrounds?
Answer:
This is a very tough ethical question.
On one hand, I believe to be ethically sound, you'd need to prove that the invaded country has significant means to attack your country, HAS attacked your country in the past, and/or is harboring people that wish to do harm to your countrymen. In the case of the invasion of Afghanistan, that military action was warranted based upon evidence provided by an independent council.
However, Iraq is a slightly different story. No concrete proof of the ability to harm our country was ever found (no WMDs, no biological weaponry) and an independent council from the United Nations ruled that no weaponry was in evidence. We invaded that country anyway, resulting in thousands of lost American lives, and tens of thousands of lost Iraqi citizens' lives. The only upshot to the invasion of this country is we got to eliminate a terrible excuse for a human being, Saddam Hussein, and his equally barbaric sons.
I believe our country's leaders acted ethically in good faith during the Afghanistan sorties, but then turned the resultant public good will into an excuse for a revenge strike against Iraq. But that neither helps the troops that are there now, nor does it solve the problem of no projected time-table for pulling our soldiers out of the area.
In saying all this, however, I think it's important to say that Bush didn't get us here by himself. It's a tough situation, but lots of people had to make bad decisions to get here. This isn't Bush's fault solely -- he's just the guy we hired to take the blame for a lot of people's shortcomings.
sure is!...and what better battle grounds than third world deserts?...
Well if that is where the bad guys are you bet.
So are you saying we shouldn't have bomb Japan or Germany in WWII.
What is the bases of your "ethics" anyways?
What are you using as a standard?
Such was the fate of of the peninsular we call Italy before WWI. Nothing new under the sun.
We did not choose the battal grounds in Iraq. We merely went in and deposed a murdering, torturing despot. The Islamic Jihadists then chose to make Iraq the battle ground.
is it ethical to drive a plane into a US landmark and kill US people? Sweetie there is no room for ethics in war!
Well that statement is not indeed a fact. Just because you believe everything you hear, it does not make it true. Are you saying we did not have any terrorism before Afghanistan and Iraq? How old are you ? I think you need to hit the books and bone up on your topic before you make stupid statements.
Regarding Afghanistan, what choice is there if terrorists have chosen this site to train and recruit, and had previously worked unhindered by the Afghan government?
Seeing as how Saddam supported terrorists and was failing to uphold his ceasefire agreements, and the Taliban gave shelter to the ones who did 9/11, do you see how stupid your question is?
When those other countries are the foundation for terrorism, despotism, and/or the drug trade, then yes.
Remember, a lot of heroin was produced in Afghanistan to be sold in the West. This has been a major problem.
Depends on your system of ethics, but obviously we believe so or we wouldn't be there.
I don't think ethics comes into play here...it is necessary to fight the terrorists over there..as we see from what happened in Britain, constant vigilance at home isn't enough...we have to take the fight to them, be pro-active.
no, why don't they try using their own country as battle ground...
It is not ethical, other countries have right peace existance just like U.S. I beleive in using dialouge to reach peaceful agreement rather than war.
Third world countries are not battlegrounds.
I fail to see what is ethical about killing people regardless of the "battle ground." We like to throw around terms, but there is nothing ethical about war. Don't kid your self.
However, sometimes it is necessary. I believe this is one of those times.
How incredibly stupid your question is ......Will you wake up any time soon ? ?
