Starting a new job?

I am starting a new job and in the employment packet they want me to sign saying I will not leave my employment with them to go to a vendor of theirs. Apparently they have had many employees leave for other companies they do business with. Is this legal for them to ask me to sign? I am uncertain as to whether I should sign or not.

Thanks

Answers:
It is called a non-compete clause and it is legal and very common. Nothing to worry about.

It's a non compete Claus. It's standard. If you don't sign they will more than likely not hire you. I know I wouldn't.
yea alot of people do it, nothing to be worried about. they dont really check where you go after you leave unless your like the VP of welchs grape jelly, and then you leave to go and be the CEO of smuckers. You know what I mean?
