Don't big businesses put a toll on our roads and bridges with their huge trucks?
when they pass a house you can feel the house shaking, i am sure they are the main reasons for damages to our bridges. also one can see the tracks they make on our highways, when one drives on these roads, it feels like a railroad track and if you don't keep driving in these tracks you can loose control and it causes accidents too! how come no one points at these businesses and demand more responsibilities and demand more taxes. if we need to raise taxes to repair these structures, it is them that need to pay more taxes. they are the ones who use and abuse our roads the most and gain the most out of them. they better not try to increase the prices on the products that the working poor consumes and in a way have them pay for it indirectly!

I'm not a big fan of Corporate America, but in fairness, what about all the people with RVs, UHauls, etc. who are on the roads, and what about all the SUVs that people are driving these days? I passed a grandmother in a huge Hummer on my way to work this morning.
Those heavy vehicles do put greater wear and tear on the roads. For that reason, most states collect vehicle registration fees for commercial vehicles based on the weight.
Those big rigs pay THOUSANDS of dolllars in annual fees, compared to what you and I pay for our passenger vehicles and pick up trucks.
And, of course, the prices of consumer products is what pays for these increased taxes and fees. Why would you expect commercial carriers to simply absorb the cost of doing business without charging customers. After all, the business owner pays for commercial property, manufacturing equipment, employees, raw materials and, of course, the cost of delivering these goods.
If you want the prices to go up on everything, then businesses can shut down all of their semi trucks. It costs far less to run one semi load of Coca-Cola (up to 3000 cases on 32 pallets) than it would to do the same thing in a fleet of cars or pickup trucks. And businesses do pay more taxes...far more. Those costs - not consumer demand - are what determine the price of a product.
If you don't want them to be hauling stuff in big trucks, you have to convince your neighbors to stop buying things. Don't blame the companies for the public's consumption demands.
