Nigerian phone scam?

okay so here is my question...has any of you ever been scammed by a nigerian phone scam? Yesterday someone called claiming to be with the social security administrations saying I had a check for 500 dollars. and then he asked me for my checking account number. I told him no and hung up but he called me back and said "why did you hang up on me?" then I said "call me back again and I am calling the cops" and he called me back!! This time he said "Do you know who you are talking to?! I am with..." I cut him off and said "look here A**h****" I am not giving you any information and call the next person on your list" and then he called me back AGAIN!! I am just wondering if any of you have ever dealt with this. I researched it on the web and found that I was right - It was a scam. the government doensn't EVER ask for your banking information. Has this ever happened to anyone? Just want to compare stories. HAHA

Answer:
Yes, our family was being scammed out of one of our American Bulldog Puppies, The scam came from Nigeria and I am wondering why our American Internet Sevices don't block all scams from Nigeria ? The American Embassy in Nigeria, needs to close the freedom that Nigeria has with the United States. in regards to this scamming. Nigeria is very presistant too. They must think American's are dumb. Boy are they wrong ! Hope it soon stops !

Wow never just the e-mail scam stuff no phone calls
Not lately. They usually steal my mail instead. Its easier.
This is a new one. Get Caller ID. Another way to shut them up is simply to give a bogus number.
If i were you i would call the police and tell them what happened. Impersonating a government employee in a federal offense. You could also sue the scammer saying he harassed you.
there are many scams out there and most are aimed at the elderly. if anyone solicits personal information by phone, or by email, do not respond. you handled this is a very good manner.

where i live, one of the phone scams if selling light bulbs, there are variations, they use the handicapped, law enforcement officers to protect kids from drugs. they use good causes as bait. just be wary and don't give out info.
What you did was great. Isn't it amazing how ballsy those people are. Please report him to to Social Security Administration. They hunt these losers down and prosecute them. Again, good for you!!
good for you. Never EVER give your information out over the phone or internet because you don't really know who that person is. if it's a federal agency that is calling you, believe me they either inform by mail or have your information already, because everytime you update a information about whether your new address or name, it goes to government file.i saw the Nigerian and Russia scam on Oprah. this on that show was scammed $50,000 because someone send her e-mail saying she had won but need her account number to write her a check. they also set up websites that has similar trademark symbol like ebay or federal government sites. so be very cautious
