The tobacco companies will love this because it will cause those who constantly leave butts unattended in ashtrays (writers - computer junkies) light another instead of re-lighting the ones that keep going out by themselves - MORE SALES!

If you put down a cigar or a hand rolled cigarette, it goes out. If you put down a taylor made cigarette, it burns the place down. That's because the tobacco is less tightly packed.
Fire-safe cigarettes would have to contain more tobacco (that will upset the tobacco firms' profits). Smokers would have to draw harder (that might improve their lung function). The only people who will really notice much difference will be the fire brigade.
self extinguishing cigarettes, great idea, and so healthy. Smoking outside in the rain will have the same effect and won't be so expensive to develop. So an EU wide smoking in public places ban is the answer.
It's not fire-free. LOL.just won't burn without taking a hit off it all the time. Helps if people forget their cigarette in an ashtray if they run to answer the phone. Burns out if they fall asleep or drop it instead of continuing a slow burn.
They have flame retardent clothing for children but it doesn't mean they won't burn.
make them out of asbestos - they wouldn't be any more hazardous to the smokers.

PS. the reason that cigarettes out of a packet don't go out is that they are treated with chemicals to ensure a constant slow even burn, and as rolling tobacco doesn't contain these chemicals it has a habit of going out if you don't puff on it regularly.
You know, I've tried and tried many times to get a cigarette to start a fire. I've done everything at my disposal to get one started. Dry leaves, gasoline, oil hell I've even fell asleep in bed and the light cigarette burned a massive hole in my mattress but never have I gotten a fire started. I'd like for once to see them start a fire with a cigarette without putting pure oxygen on it or something un-natural like that. JUST ONCE.
This is just another attack against smoking. The obsessives (anti-smokers) will support it because it helps them with their crusade. As they have banned it pretty well everywhere, what is their problem, apart from insanity, of course. Aren't these little Hitlers supposed to reflect public opinion, and not impose their own petty prejudices onto us. I don't know how you make a cigarette not burn, and I wouldn't give this persons demands any credence by trying to achieve it.
