Main reason:
we still haven't gotten rid of all the people who we made it illegal for in the first place.
Weed was made illegal, not because its bad for you, but to make it easy to arrest people the government doesn't like:
1) Mexicans
2) Hippies
3) Protesters
4) Black people
5) Jazz musicians (same as 4 probly)
as long as we still have this we'll never had weed
look at Amsterdam, they have weed but none of these people.
and befor you say "hey hes crazy, the government wouldnt make up stuff just to get rid of some one they dont like" just remember
we KNEW sadam had WMD's befor the war. now hes dead, and we stopped looking
Agreed same goes for cigs for that matter.
There more harmfull than both combined.
Maybe legalize them or ban all three.
Hypocrytical if there not treated equally.
Yes. I'd rather see anything illegal once it interferes with other people's lives. For example: a little weed, at home, no children around= legal. Driving with it=illegal. Drinking alcohol to excess in family with children around=illegal!
I lived in an Eskimo village in the Alaskan Bush where pot was somewhat legal and alcohol was not legal. (Both, however, were used extensively.) Several people explained that alcohol makes people violent, while pot makes people mellow. Personally, I think both should be legal, with very harsh penalties for anyone who drives after using either one.
no because a person can have a drink or two and still be fine to drive, take care of their kids, etc...but when you smoke you smoke to get stoned and though ive heard MANY people say they drive better stoned, its like saying they drive better drunk...it doesnt make sense...not to mention a kid or pregnant woman can go to a restraunt where alcohol is served and be fine, but if people are smoking pot in there, thats gonna mess with too many people who dont WANT to get stoned
Weed can increase mental issues up to 40%. Schizophrenia is the most common one. I just read that a couple days ago as the latiest reports. As for drinking it has just as much effect in a bad way when its done to the extreme.
here is some more infomration

Alcohol is legal because the range of effects it can have on users is much smaller than with pot. With pot, some people have a very mellow high while others can get terrifying, paranoid trips that can cause unwanted behavior. It's been studied, they recently found out that pot increases neurotic behavior in people with mental illnesses. I remember they tested this on people with schizophrenia, and they said that those people went on such paranoid trips that they actually thought it would be cruel to do more tests. So that's a big reason why it will never get legalized. It might be totally safe and harmless for most of the population, but a small percent can't handle it, and if it's legalized people who might not know they'll get those effects might accidentally take it and do something stupid.
Alcohol is a toxic poison, THC is not. It is physically impossible to overdose on marijuana, where as it is not difficult to overdose on alcohol. It is quite obvious that alcohol is much more destructive to society than marijuana could ever be, but unfortunately too many people are misinformed about the so called "dangers" of smoking pot. When it comes to driving under the influence, there is no comparison between alcohol and marijuana. Alcohol makes people lose their inhibitions and affects the area of the brain that controls motor function, and the person may be physically unable to coordinate the car properly. Marijuana does not interfere with the brain in this way, and may cause the driver to drive slower and more cautiously because of the "paranoia" effect.
