What is the easiest way to check someones criminal background without having to pay for it?
A friend is looking into getting a roommate and needs to find out if any of her prospects have a criminal background.

Ask them, otherwise you'll have to pay. Charge the person who wants to be the room mate for the check, just like they do with a rental app when they check your credit.

Well, if I wouldn't want to pay; what I would do is go to this website and do a national name inmate search. If you can't find him/her, then I will just assume that the person never has been convicted of anything.

Test the person... live some money on the table (many types, including coins... but you must know exactly how much) and go to the bathroom... she/he will remain alone wiyh the money... for fun you may mount a video cam...
After, when you come back from the bathroom, count the money, and even if he/she was honest and does not "borrow" some, say that is a thief and accuse it from taking the money.
