Need help with this one big time/ Conflict of Interest ?

Need to know the state definition of Conflict of Interest for the state of Pennsylvania. Please, no jokes, serious answers please.

Answers:
We can't tell, unless we know more about why you're asking.

Those responders who are citing Pennsylvania Code are making assumptions about what you mean, and those assumptions may or may not be correct.

Are you talking about a conflict that would disqualify a lawyer, for example, or an actionable conflict held by officers in a corporation, etc.?

Look it up yourself
Not a joke answer
your question is too vague.

Conflict of interest means simply that you should not be "voting" with one entity to make a decision on another entity that you also represent.

what you are specifically looking for when you say conflict of interest for the state does not make any sense.
Generally, conflict of interest is when someone is on both sides at once.

Example: a lawyer representing both parties, a real estate agent representing both parties.

It is not illegal to do this, but both parties need to know that it is happening and agree to it.
Your question is waaaay too broad. Try being more specific. Are you talking about lawyers, judges, politicians, arbitrators, witnesses, private employers, relatives, friends? There is no one size fits all definition.
Here is the definition for atty. Is this what you are looking for?

1.7:101 Model Rule Comparison
PA-R 1.7 closely parallels MR 1.7, which requires a lawyer not to represent a client where that representation will be "directly adverse" to another client. PA-R 1.7 differs from MR 1.7 in that it requires a lawyer to obtain client consent to any representation after full disclosure and consultation concerning the potential or actual conflict of interest. The Model Rules require only consultation, not full disclosure.
Believe it or not, the answer to your question is the same as the answer to the following:

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Get it? You already have your answer by five other posters.

By the way, those of you who gave a legal answer, HOW do you know that's what this poster is asking? You are assuming. There is a conflict of interest in the Hippocratic Oath, the Licensing board of governors for Building inspectors, the Judicial Ethics committee and a whole host of others such answer which COULD be relevant IF enough information was given.

To Thomas:
Ahhh but what if the road was the one less traveled?
"...to get to the other side."
I don't have one here in front of me. However, in most situations, if you are in a position that would require you to conform to the laws regarding conflict of interest, your state or employer normally gives those to you or has them available to you. Check with your HR if possible.

Otherwise, conflict of interest is a fairly large topic. The link that the person gave to PA law simply reflects the law concerning conflict of interest in legal representation. If that is what you want, then great. However, there are conflict of interest possible in any state job, contracts between companies and customers, etc. You will probably need to google this yourself and find the area that you need to best fit your request.
