What are your views on the FDA?
What do you think are the negative and positive outcome of having the FDA?
Answers:
They are the most crooked govt agency. all they care about is making a buck. they purposely put additives in food that will make people more hungry, and eat more food. how do you think america got so heavy. as far as the drug industry is concerned, they put out products that have little to no research. over the past decade or so, the average drug only took about 7 years to hit the market after initial drug application was submitted. This is down from about 10-12 years in the past. they dont care about us the consumer, just the bottom line!!
Positive we get much fewer dangerous drugs. negative the good drugs we do get are 10 years out of date.
The FDA is, in principle, a good agency. It has done a lot to protect Americans. The problem lately is that the government is not funding it properly and it has been forced to charge fees to pharmaceutical companies to approve their drugs. This puts pressure on them to pass questionable drugs on to the people. We need the government to fund it properly and to stop the fees so that the FDA is not pressured to pass drugs that might not be safe.
they do a good job and try the best
sometiems hard to police all.
After Reagan gutted it by reducing its budget and forcing layoffs of most of the inspectors?
I'd have to say that the negative is that it is still there because it is virtually ineffective as a regulatory body.
On the positive side, corporations can increase their profits while the food supply becomes increasingly unsafe.
The FDA would be more credible if they didn't have employees that had ties to other companies/industries. If the president of the FDA also works closely with beef producing companies, he/she won't protect the publics best interest, but the beef companies best interests!
