How much are public defenders paid?

I know that you cannot give an exact figure, but I would appreciate a "general" or approximate figure for state PDs. Are they paid per case or are they just salaried? I am referring to state public defenders who are employed by the government, NOT by a non profit organization. Any information pertaining to Mississippi public defenders would be great too.
