I saw a "secret" e-mail that could get me fired.?
I work at a small video game store. I've been working there for about 2 months. My first paycheck came fine, but my second and third had problems. My second paycheck was late and I kept having to talk to my manager and boss about getting it to me. I got 9 days after I was supposed to. My third paycheck was late as well, but only by 3 days. But this time it was $60 less than I should have gotten. I showed my boss my hours I worked (I kept a record) and then he said he'd get my $60 to me soon.
I worked last Friday and kept asking about my $60. My manager said he'd e-mail the boss and find out. A couple hours later, my manager had to go to another store to pick up a PS3 and left me alone with the assistant manager. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I called my boss and got only his voice mail, and then I remembered the e-mail my manager sent him. I checked the company e-mail (which wasn't password blocked) and this is what I found:

If you get fired, and I would stick to it until you do, document any write ups (doesn't sound like they've done that) and go to the labor board.
So? There is nothing illegal or untoward about such an e-mail. You will be (or so it seems) fairly compensated.
Did you have a LEGAL question?
if you are quitting then just quit and let it go
It sounds like you need to find a better job.
Personally, I would have broken dudes arm for him just on principle.
Just quit and leave the high school theatrics behind. You've got your money, time to move on. They sounded like they liked you, but you were not a good fit, which is not unusual or a bad thing.
I would say that there's a lot you could PROBABLY do, which would involve court costs, lawyers and back-and-forth about passwords and 10 days here and a missed meeting there, all of which would lead to you realizing that this is a really crappy job with shady businesspeople.
It would save you a lot of time, money, effort and argument if you just quit before you got fired.
don't tell them that you saw the e-mail.
that would put you in evidence. just look for another job before you get fired.
if you wanna be mean and take revenge for them talking on your back, then spread a rumor, say they're gay or something else.
Well, let's operate on the idea that everything above is true. If what you have indicated is factual, then you need to go out and get another job. You are working for immature losers that can't manage and effectively run a store. You may not be worth a crap either, I just can't tell from this email what your qualities are. Your manager's have a bad view of you in general and you will have a hard time changing that at this time. Especially after you have read this and know that they are buffoons. You should have plenty of time to go find another job since they intend to cut you back to almost nothing. Find a job where you at least think the owners/managers are worthy of your respect.
BTW, if the part about your dad calling in is true, try hard to avoid that next time. Whether you are 16 or 21, you should handle your own problems. It is ok to get advice from friends or your dad concerning the problem, but don't let them fight your battles for you. If a payroll mistake had been made and you were working for me, and I received a call from your dad, I would never look at you as an employee again. I would see you as a little boy, not ready to take on the responsibility of work. If your dad did that without your knowledge, carefully speak to him and ask him to let you handle it next time.
If your going to leave anyways of course you should mention the secret email. I can't stand people like that. Hope you find a better job with better people. There are better jobs out there - try another video store or a retail store. Do you have a mall near you or a grocery store? Try them. It's not worth having to fight for your pay every single week. They're a bunch of jerks!
I don't think any good would come of telling them you saw the email. As much as you'd want to, I'm sure! I know I'd be pissed off too! But, be the better man and just give your notice. Be SURE to give notice, even if they tell you to leave now, be sure to give them a written 2-week notice. Don't say you saw the email, because I'm sure they'll come up with something stating that you violated confidential information. When you apply for a new job, you don't want that coming up, right? You may not be trusted from then on. Plus when asked, they'll have to say, yes he gave notice. By law they can't say much else. Other than your job, dates and pay and if you're eligible for re-hire. Being eligible only means that IF you were to want to come back would they have a legal reason to say no. Prying into managements email might constitute a reason to NOT hire you back. Do it right and you won't have to regret it later. Good luck.
Seeing as you are being compensated for your hours there is nothing out of line here. Mix ups on payroll happen occasionally and you just roll with it if you want the job - make a point of telling them and getting your money is all you can really do.
As far as mentioning it, I wouldn't do that. While you can't get in any trouble for it because you are leaving anyway; it is never a good plan to burn bridges.
