Does an employer know your former employers if you don't tell them?

Assuming you don't tell a prospective employer on your application, is there any way they can see who you have worked for previously? Like a national registry or background check?

Answers:
No. It does appear on your credit report- but in a very general way and that information is not kept complete by credit reporting agencies, or any other type of personal history report. If you do not list your previous employers, they prospective employer may ask what you did during a span of time that is blank on your resume, I do when conducting interviews. If you do not want a prospective employer to contact as previous employer, you can list it on your resume - but they may ask why. By law in this state (MI), employers can only give your dates of employment. They cannot give out an opinion of your work performance or why you no longer are employed by them. If your resume shows that you worked at places for 6 months and then left, it looks like job-hopping to the new employer.

yea if they do backtround check, they can pull up your whole employment history as long as you worked legally
Yes, it appears on your credit report.
