Why Is The European Union Concerned With Texas' Capital Punishment?
There is an article on Yahoo's front page entitled "EU urges Texas to halt executions before 400 mark". Here's the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070821/us_n...
Why is the European Union concerned with capital punishment in Texas? The EU has issued official statements which call the death penalty cruel and inhumane and an ineffective deterrent to crime. This article promtped me to do some research which turned up two interesting articles. The first outlines the case against the sentenced man. The second is a compelling article written by the daughter of the victim, Kathyanna Nguyen. If you have some time I'd urge you to read them both and donate your two cents.

The EU is concerned about capital punishment in many countries besides the US. As another answerer mentioned, many countries not in the EU are concerned about capital punishment in the US.
Opposing the death penalty does not mean we excuse brutal acts. Death penalty opponents share your revulsion with these.
You might also take a look at the stories of some of the death row exonerees (see www.innocenceproject.org or www.deathpenaltyinfo.org) and read about some of the 124 death row exonerees. Read about Ray Krone (100th exoneree), Kirk Bloodsworth (first DNA exoneree), Nick Yarris, Juan Melendez, Ryan Matthews (suffering from mental illness and mental retardation) and some of the others.
The problem with capital punishment is that if we make a mistake no amount of restitution will make any difference.
Because the EU doesn't have the death penalty and they keep poking their noses in places where they dont belong.
because the united states has been so interested in what the rest of the world has been doing in terms of human rights, the european union thought they'd do the same.
The E.U. are a bunch of elitist snobs that believe their opinion to be fact. We should dismiss them as just that.
The EU is just invoking their right of free speech to ask Texas to stop their practice of capital punishment. That is all there is to it. A nothing story. The EU can choose to sanction an individual state in the US by refusing to do business with the EU, that is their right.
Other countries have also questioned both the death penalty statues of Texas and Florida. These countries include Canada, Mexico, the EU, and Australia.
Maybe because Americans (including Texans) stick their noses in the business of every other country, whether it has to do with the deaths of innocent people or not.
Why can we do it to every country in the world when we disagree with them, but they can't do it to us?
It's not like we would listen anyway! Who cares?
They love sticking their big noses where they don`t belong ! And , as far as "an ineffective deterrent to crime" goes , so what ?
Capital punishment is just that ! PUNISHMENT ! It has nothing to do with "deterrent" , or haven`t the geniuses in Europe figured that one out yet ?
As far as I am concerned the EU,should just mind there own business and don't worry about what is going on in the U.S.and that is the way I feel about all these countries who get in our business but when they need our military there always there but what about these countries and there military they send a tidbit force and we pay a heavier price so the EU,n other countries need to shut up!!
This is being asked by an American whose government meddles in the internal affaires of all nations on earth and violates on a regular bases the sovereignty of many.
What is your point ?
I suspect you are promoting capital punishment.I have no intension of reading the victims statement as this is pure subjective emotionalism and has nothingb to do with thec arcguments against capital punishment.
This in no way means I and others do not have great empathy for the victims of murder ,It only means I and most others in the world WILL NOT ALLOW OUR GOVERNMENTS TO KILL A HUMAN BEING IN OUR NAME ..
One of the most basic moral absolutes of Christianity is forgiveness and the sanctity of human life.Just because a vile person has taken a life in no way sanctifies the taking of that person's life.
VENGENCE IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE CHRISTIAN MORAL .
