How long does it take before you can pass a background check?
what I am asking is if you have a record how long do you have to be crimefree before you will be accepted for a job?
Answer:
Several factors are dependant upon employment background checks - type of background check being performed, i.e., any government agency can take up to six months, a non-government agency usually about a week. Often times employers will consider the following if they know of a criminal background.
(1) Crime Committed
(2) Circumstance of Crime
(3) Time since last criminal activity
(4) Rehabilitation
(5) Crime committed in relation to position applying for
A couple of positive things for someone with a criminal background is the Federal Bonding Program that you can inquire about with your local employment office. And secondly, see if your state has an "expungement" law for employment purposes.
That depends solely on the policy of the employer.
