Lawyer will not return phone calls?! Can someone give me advice?
July made 1 year that my husband hired this lawyer for his case. We went in on a Wedensday to talk with the lawyer he took the case & said he does not start cases until he has been paid.. Well, I have never been through this so we paid him the following Friday. He canceled one court date scheduled another & my husband took off day for the rescheduled court date & the lawyer called us that morning to say he was going to cancel the court. This has been going for over a year as I said and he will not return our phone calls & I called the court house today & the lady said she fired the same lawyer over a year ago because he was doing the same thing to her. Not returning calls& canceling court dates she said she paid him $2500.00&lost it all because she fired him. I need some answers & I need to know what to do can anyone please give me some advice?Who can I talk to about this problem?I have called countless times &my husband has even stopped by his office&still no response from him.help!

If you have a complaint, you should contact The Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility in your state. However, it is not unusual for an attorney to not start working on a case until they are paid.
I do think its fishy that he keeps continuing the case. On one hand he may be trying to get the case in front of the right judge. On the other hand, if you still owe him money, he may be pushing the case out until you pay him the rest of the money.
What kind of a case is it? Has your husband gone to court with him the times that there were dates?
What happened when your husband stopped by the office? Does this attorney have an assistant/secretary that you can speak with to find out the status of the case.
Contact your State Attourney General. They will look into the matter for you.
You need to contact the American Bar Association in your state and file a formal complaint against this attorney. You also need to contact the court directly regarding your husband's case to make sure that he has not missed any important court dates, etc. Hopefully the ABA will have some suggestions for both getting a new attorney and getting your money back from your current attorney.
Call the bar association they can stop him from ever practising law again.Best of luck. You could also sue him for your money back.
The lawyer will contact you when your husband is due to return to court (if ever).
What you are waiting on now is for the court date. This is NOT set up by the lawyers or District Attorneys, but by the Judge, so you are waiting on a date - not your lawyer.
He should be in contact with you enough to let you know this. You shouldn't have to ask this question here, he is failing in his task to keep you abreast of what is happening in your case.
I would write a letter to him, asking for any information available. If you don't receive a response, fire him - forget the money you lost on him and get a new lawyer.
