American Legal: Guilty Until Proven Innocent?

As I watch ESPN I see more and more analysts saying that Roger Goodell (The NFL commissioner) should suspend or even banish Michael Vick for his indictment in the "Bad Newz Kennels" case. His sponsors have already begun dropping like flies. Protesters stand outside of his court screaming animal rights at him, and all the while he has only been indicted as the target of an investigation.
Did the American media not learn after they RUINED the Duke LaCrosse boys lives, spamming the airwaves and internet with rapist suggestions. They tarnished these boys' resumes for the rest of their lives.
Furthermore did they not understand the Kobe Bryant case? he cheats on his wife, yes, but then a money grubber tried to scheme that she had been raped, so she could get rich. All the while sponsors drop Kobe, and he is still being called a rapist.
None of the above have ever been convicted!
Where does America go wrong here? Why do we jump to conclusions at the mere sight of any threat? How do we fix it?

Answers:
America seems to want immediate gratification instead of waiting things out. We can't even bother to have enough patience to wait for a guilty verdict!

This is just a little different and I suspect the evidence and his friends who are coming out against him already is also giving them reason. I see him as a brutal cretin, and if I am proven wrong I will apologize. But in this case, I suspect he will not even come close to receiving the punishment I think he should get.
