What is the legal drinking age in spain? and do they really care?
I heard 18 to purchase or drink whatever but I have also heard they dont really ID you or mind as long as you respect their country...is it different for Americans? Do they really care? any tricks?

If you could reach the bar you could drink. I'm serious I've been there. When you travel they tell you that the Spain barely gets sleeps and its almost always party. Even with families. By the way its not only Spain its many places like Jerusalem, Brazil, Europe. For me the easiest place to get them was the club. They really just don't care. In Jerusalem you could buy vodka when your young. And the first time i drank anything, i was around two years old but it wasn't hard. My great grandmother gave me some wine but then again my family is from Spain. If you're old enough to go to war and die for a country then you should be old enough to drink. Think about it.
Here in Canada, the drinking age is only a suggestion.

Many spainards have grown up near grape fields and work in wine factories. The legal age to drive in spain is 21.

i live in europe, and hav been all over, the only places theyre strict about drinking ages is in the UK and Ireland. ive never had any trouble buying alcohol in europe. i dont know about spain but in belgium (and most european countries) its legal to drink at 16 but not to go drinking in pubs. you may have problems in pubs and clubs but buying in shops is unlikely to be a problem

Okay, I recently got back from Europe. Most of Europe is 16 to buy beer and light stuff but you must be 18 and show ID for Hard Alcohol like Whiskey and Wodka (Vodka). It is not different for Americans, if you'll be 16 then you can get most drinks without any problems if you are carded. They really only card for the hard stuff. Have fun and don't get flat out drunk, only makes the alcoholic image of us worse, drink responsibly.
I think it's 18, but nobody really cares. In Europe in general no one cares. I lived in Germany from 0-23 years old and bought hard liquor in a Store where People knew how old I was.
