Can a employer fire or lay you off because your pregnant, I live in BC Canada?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and worried. I work as a janitor, I don't feel that I have to quit work at all. I feel fine and my first pregnancy I worked till I was 8 months along.
I worry cause my bosses now are soft on themseleves they always worry this is too much or that is too much. And I worry that they would feel its too much to work and be pregnant although my decision.
I am a janitor but am not around any more cemicals than I would be than if I were cleaning my own house. So I dont see that as a problem. I dont do any heavy lifting.
So law wise can they get rid of me because I'm pregnant or not?
I dont want to go on unemplyment since I dont make enough for that. And second it's not because of lack of work.it'd be solely on the fact that they dont want a pregnant lady working.
They dont know yet, and I dont intent on telling anyone yet until I'm 3 months, but I'm worried I'll lose my job.

Not at that early stage, but later on you will probably want time off!~!

I live in the UK and UK law say that they can not fire you for being pregnant it is sexual discrimination. I can not speak for Canada and my advice would be to speak to somebody who knows Canadian employment law. Do you not have a HR or Personnel dept? whatever you say to them is confidential. If not a legal drop in center or something.
I would be wary of people blindly advising you on this site though. get proper advice from someone who knows

hope this helps
Depends.

If you concentrate on doing the job, don't worry a good employer will want to keep you around. if you are a slacker the employer should have a right to let you go.
if you do not give them proper time to prepare for your absents yes. Or if you are 7 months pregnant and get a job and do not inform your boss. otherwise if you give ample time for your employer to make arrangements for your leave then by law they cannot fire you. you also should get paid maternity leave. I think your husband, granted you have one can get paid leave too.
If you are unable to preform your duties, there are actions that an employer can take to get you off the job. Otherwise your employment is supposed to be protected for the prescribed federal term of one year's worth of parental leave. You should be able to get a better picture from employment advisors at EI sponsored centres or even at your local provincial agent's office.
