Who has 'extra' rights?
I often hear people claiming that certain people in America, usually ethnic minorities, have extra rights that white people don't, or that gay people get 'special rights' not available to anuyone else. Oddly these extra special rights are never enumerated. When segregation and anti-gay bias was the law of the land, the majority population certainly enjoyed greater rights than the minority, and thought they deserved them. is it just that equality feels unbalanced in comparison?

I agree with you! Minorities try to just get the same rights as everyone else, and those in the majority complain. I will not say white, because I am white, and even though most of the elite are white, it is more economic discrimination than race. In other words, being a low income working woman, even though I am also white, I get discriminated against too!
I am not saying that racism doesn't exist, I am perfectly aware that it does. I just want you to realize that it is not JUST race.
Basically, the so called Elite think they are better than all the rest of us, regardless of race or gender. If we don't belong in what they consider the right families, we are less than human to them. And they actually encourage us to have racist and sexist attitudes against each other, because it helps to take our attention away from them and how they are screwing us over, and controlling us. *sm*

It is certainly not Christians, our rights are being dwindled away slowly but surely. ie no prayer in school, removal of Christian based material in state and local government offices so on and so on.

Every minority has more rights. They just play the race or gay card and get what they want.
I'm mixed and I was raised in the hood. I know our society has racism and problems that we need to fix.
But it's kind of true if a gay and a straight apply for a job and have the same qualifications they will pick the gay because companies are too afraid of a lawsuit and they will probably win.
Another one if you call somebody the "N" word in a derogatory way you can be fired from a job, sued, suspended from school but if you call a whit person cracker, honkey, nothing happens.
I think the latter part of your question lends to the answer...
Here's a couple;
You can say the "N" word without any recourse. A word mind you. Not protected by free speech for whites.
Gays have hate crime status even if you don't know they are gay if you kick their a**. True! If you fight them, they can claim you knew they were gay and your punishment now falls under federal hate crime status, which has a much stiffer penalty.
