Jury duty question?
I have been called for a six week trial @ the United States District Court. I will love to attend but I'm a stay at home mom. Does anyone know if I can be excuse for this reason.i have no one to watch my daughter (may husband works night **** and sleep during the day). Or does the court provide daycare for the duration of the trial?
Answers:
When going through the Voir Dire process, the judge and attorneys will ask questions of you regarding your personal situation. The judge will ultimately decide whether to excuse you for you situation. There is not a daycare that the court provides. They do, however, pay you for your time (minimally), something like $30/day.
Childcare. That's funny.
No, they barely pay you enough per day to park near the courthouse. You can certainly try, and tell the judge or the jury commissioner that the jury trial would put you in a financial hardship because of your husband's job, but it might not actually get you out of the obligation.
call and tell them your reasons so you won't have to go to Jury duty...
The court does not provide day care.
Suggest you call them ASAP!
No its not an excuse and no the court doesn't provide daycare...
You should be able to get excused for this reason. Just tell the court that it will cause a family hardship to be on the case for six weeks. Usually you can get excused. Also, just because you have been called doesn't mean you are automatically selected. Generally they have 100+ people to select the jury from. If you have all ready been selected you will need to talk to the judge about being excused.
look on your list of reasons to be excused from service. if its on there your ok.
no, its not a good enuff excuse
They are not suppose to care if you need child care. But if it's a family hardship and they have 9999 others behind you to pick from, they may let you off.
Child Care that's funny. They may ask you for proof.
I love jury duty, especially a federal one? I'd pay for child care, just for the reality show for free...it'll be some down time and boring, but you learn so much.
I'm studing paralegal real estate law right now.
Well theres no day care. And they barely pay you back for you time period But any way My mom had to type them a letter because she is disabled. If you do this you also need to follow up on your letter because if you do not attend the Duty you will be fined. GOOD LUCK
Yes it can get you excused from jury duty. Being the sole care taker for children and having nobody who can take care of them and doing jury duty would cause you an undue hardship. Contact the court and explain it to them.
You should have explained this problem in the initial questionnaire. Unavoidable obligations like this are usually grounds for immediate excuse. But I would have to guess if you explained the situation even at this late date to the Jury Clerk, they would excuse you. They don't like to disrupt peoples' lives too much - it's bad P.R.! Hope this helps. Good luck.
