Establishing Paternity but father is not citizen?
My son's father is an illegal citizen and acknowledges his paternity to our son. He is going back to his country but we still want him on the birth certificate before he goes. Does anyone know how we can go about putting him on the certificate or a website with information? So far everything I have read says they require the fathers social security and well obviously he doesn't have one.
Answers:
You can go through the courts and request a DNA test even if he is outside the country. It works best if he is willing to submit to a dna test.
You should be able to do this without a social security number. First, find out which office issued the birth certificate (probably a county or state agency). That should be listed somewhere on the certificate you already have. Then, call that office and speak to someone to aks this question. Sometimes it's hard to find specific information like this on websites, and talking to someone on the phone might help.
You could probably also google the name of your state plus "change birth certificate" and find the website of the state agency that handles this. If the info you need is not on the website, give them a call.
Good luck!
