Why do we make Laws and then not enforce them?
Answers:
Not enough time and money in the budget.
Foolishness. It basically boils down to that.
People get laws passed either because they feel a need to protect society against some perceived threat, or simply because they want to control other people.
But every time a law is not enforced, it weakens all other laws. That's just being foolish.
Legislators make laws to gain political support to help them get re-elected, or to get different laws passed in complex compromises.
They make so many laws that they can't all be enforced.
As Coragryph so sagely points out, every law that goes unenforced errodes the Rule of Law upon which our society relies.
For votes. It is easier to get headlines writing and passing new law, than to enforce the laws on the books..
Gotta keep all those lawyers and politicians employed.
Laws are made to Show what we Think is Wrong.
By the time it boils down to actually living it and enforcing it, many many people interpretation comes into play. First there is interpretation and then there is manipulation, so even if we want to enforce it, there are ways and means and other laws which help us circumvent the law.
