How does companies accomodate?
PEOPLE WITH A KNOWN DRUG ABUSE PROBLEM, OR THOSE W/DISABILITIES??
Answers:
An example of accomodating someone with a disability -- we had a guy at work who lost a leg to cancer. Although he worked in an upstairs office, an office on the ground level was set up for him so he did not have to climb the stairs. We could have also put in ramps for him.
We would not, however, have needed to provide an elevator unless he couldn't use his arms.
As to people with a known drug abuse problem -- Most companies won't hire someone with an obvious problem, but some will assist their employees in getting abuse assistance -- e.g. My dad was busted for drinking on the job (in the mid 70's) and his company paid for him to get treatment and paid him disability while he was off. They also kept him home instead of traveling so he wouldn't miss any of his AA meetings.
How "do" they accomodate?
Well I seriously doubt they'll hire somebody who is still a junkie and not even in recovery
And there are plenty of jobs people w/ disabilities can have. If they're in a wheelchair they can have desk jobs and answer phones - technically they don't have to accomodate but there are plenty of oppurtunities
For disabilities, a worker can contact "JAN" -----the " Job Accommodation Network " "JUNKIES" have rights, too. Just look @ Rush Limbaugh the druggie, loser, mama's boy .
