How is pornography legal and prostitution not?
In both situations a guy pays a women to have sex with him. The only difference is that in one the guy records it and sells it on video. I can pay a women to have sex with me as long as it's done on camera? I don't understand how the law works.

I think the only difference is that the porn industry is regulated, which means the government MUST be informed of what's going on. It's not the action they have a problem with, it's not being able to tax it and tell you how to do it. If you picked up a hooker and tried to get around the laws by videotaping it you'd be out of luck, as there are numerous laws regarding disclosure that you would then be in violation of. Remember, the government really doesn't care what you do, so long as they get a piece of the action.

Prostitution is rampant with disease and illegal drugs.
You don't get that from looking at a picture.

Touching - and spreading disease, and causing pregnancies - can be public health hazards and drains on society.
Thats why prostitiution should be legalized. And it is in brothels.

There are some legal distinctions, but it comes down to pornography being protected as free speech. In porn, the performers are not, technically, being paid to have sex. They are paid for a performance. You and I may not view it as artistic, but some do and the Supreme Court has held that as long as the work has artistic value, etc., it is protected.
Prostitution, on the other hand, is pretty much the buying & selling of sex. The reasons behind the illegality have more to do with legislated morality than crime, but there you have it.
