Why do you have to have a law degree in order to find out what the law really says?
There are volumes and volumes of laws on the books that one person could never really know what the law really says in one lifetime. Why is this and shouldn't laws be taght in grade school so that children know how to follow it when they grow older? Shouldn't the average citizen be given a book of law writen in plain english in grade school so that an average 8th grader could understand if it is that important to follow the law?
Answers:
Because the subjugation of the people demands that you first make them ignorant of the laws they are supposed to be under so then they can be imprisoned for anything. Law is not taught even in high school so it keeps the general population ignorant. If they can't follow the law even if they can't find it there is no reason why they should not follow it and be held accountable, but they are.
Sure and let's get medical books that any 8th grader could read. No chance of confusion or abuse there. How about 3rd grade rocket propulsion?
The laws are so complex because we as a society insist that they be. You have plumbers fix your pipes, mechanics fix your cars and lawyers fix your legal problems. get over it.
Because laws are written by lawyers.
People are obligated to know the law to a certain extent. These are our basic traffic laws, criminal laws, etc. More complex laws do indeed require a lawyer to get the right interpretation. Use your common sense if there is any doubt.
.
Laws are subject to interpretation and that's why we have "precedent" and lawyers "practice".
A lawyer can materially (submit new material) challenge just about any law.

well, the law actually states that it is everyone's responsibility to know and understand the law. you don't have to have a law degree to know or understand the law. just do some basic research. You must have a law degree to interpret the law. The law books and on line research tools are for legal professionals, paralegals or attorneys, to apply the written law and past court decisions to a case they are currently working on.
The wealthy class (lawyers, doctors, brokers, accountants) are generally appointed to positions of government and thus have the ability to keep such information out of schools in order to keep those occupations out of reach of the average person, and thus ensure that their heirs, who follow in the family profession, remain wealthy.
In truth, you don't need very much knowledge to do any of those jobs, all you need is a good computer database and the ability to interact with a computer.
All legal forms are free to download from the Internet; all you have to do is fill in your specific information on a preprinted form. You don't need a lawyer.
For the basic laws that govern societal interaction, most people know what they say and mean (Don't speed, don't litter, don't steal, don't kill, etc., etc.). The laws that only lawyers understand are generally those that will only come up in court or in a legal proceeding, where research, writing and arguing of the meaning of those laws will be necessary. And, in many of those cases, the lawyers won't know what the law really says until the judge rules on it.
The average 8th grader can't even a simple math problem like -5+6*9+2.....honestly and no offence but an 8th grader is not going to be able to understand the complexity of the law. Maybe the basic laws yes, but other than that no. Kids are having a much harder time now in school trying to iunderstand their math teachers and stuff like that. So to answer your question...no they shouldn't be taught in grade school. Their parents should be teaching them right from wrong at a young age and how to odey the law. If their parents will do just that then there shouldn't be a problem. I do understand what you are talking about but trust me on this..kids have it hard enough as it is. law should not be taught in school.
If they did that then how will most lawyers get paid if they can not charge you . Laws to a certain extent are taught in school to a certain extent. How ever people should be abl to learn any law they want, I am pretty sure that you can if you wanted to.It is alot of reading ,but it for some people it is worth it.
laws are written by lawyers. This is because if you don't word things in an official way they can be misinterperted.
in short "it's not their fault you didn't go to lawschool".
I agree with you in part. The laws are difficult because they prepare for any contingency, and that's why lawyers make the big bucks for knowing about it and how to research and practice it.
That said, I definitely think that there needs to be a mandatory legal course for high school students -- things like what they need to know when they turn 18 (i.e., what their legal responsibilities are), and basic search and seizure rights, etc.
There are plenty of simple law books around. Go to your library. Check wikipedia. Do a search on google. You will find whatever laws you are looking for.
You don't HAVE to have a law degree- but being a lawyer exposes you to a wide understanding of the law just by being in there and practicing it.
Personally (little joke) I prefer to get my info from watching Law & Order! ;^)
