Why aren't restaurant employees drug screened?

Answers:
No, the question is why are welfare recipients not drug tested?

Some places do drug screen, but a lot don't. Mabye cause they don't want the expense i dont know.
Why should they be?
because we need restaurant workers.
the profit margin in the restaurant business is very small, to piss test employees would put them out of business.
cause anyone that works as hard as they do, don't have time to do drugs :-)
yes good idea,,, we do not need people that think they are actually free here in this country, working for restaurants. keep freedoms limited.. all hail the the rulers of america.
why do you care if restaurant workers smoke out after work?
Better to ask, "Why are office workers drug screened?" If there aren't job performance or safety issues, piss testing is just harassment.

Unions are missing a good recruiting tool by not insisting on "No Piss" clauses wherever there aren't valid safety concerns.

And, as a practical matter, testing low income transient workers would be cost prohibitive.
Because it's an unnecessary expense. Most of the time the employees don't make much money. As long as the person is on time everyday and doing a good job than what they do off work is their own business.

Now Police, Firefighters and Civil Service positions drug screen because they work for and represent the government, and are paid by tax dollars so they are held to a higher standard.

If it is a factory with heavy machinery or a job where you have to drive than they may drug test because lives are at stake.

I say if people socially do drugs and their not a mess it's no body's business people need to exercise strict M.Y.O.B.
It depends on a restaurant. Some restaurants run drug-screens. Most don't.

I think the reason for that is that most restaurants have very high employee turnover and difficulties in hiring new staff and filling up the shifts.
Food and Beverage is not neurosurgery...would you care for dessert?
When I worked as a restaurant manager, you know that HR's response was to that question..."are you kidding, if we did that, we'd lose 80% of our employees!!"
It depends upon the employer.
