If women truly want equal rights, should they not be required to register for the selective service?
Equal rights, equal responsibilities. And no, I'm not a sexist, just wondering where you stand.
Answers:
No, they should not. Women are physically smaller and weaker than men (generally speaking) and should not be required to go through the same rigorous training, etc. This is a biological fact that can't be denied.
However, some women want to join despite their smaller demeanors, and they have every right to do so.
Well, most women I know what the whole selective service system abolished. I guess you could say yeah, they should be drafted too, but IN GENERAL women are not as large and as strong as men, and drafting a bunch of women really wouldn't do much for any war effort, I gotta say. Besides, they haven't even used it in so long, it's slightly irrelevant.
They may not be registering right now but they are serving on their own accord.
I absolutely agree. If women were required to register, and had an equal chance of being drafted if it comes to that, more individuals could be exempted from the draft, and from foreign deployments for valid reasons like single parenthood, obligations caring for elderly parents. I don't think gender or sexual prefrence are valid reasons to be exempted from the selective service.
Earl, you started this. I think EVERY ONE should have to devote 6 years to the "military". 2 Active and 4 inactive minimum. If they didn't want to be in the military they could help rebuild La. or Ms. from the hurricanes or work in hospitals or some other form of "service". If people didn't want to do it, the doors are open to leave!
women can not and will never be "equal". i am not a sexist either but a house cat will never be a lion, no matter how loud she roars.
although I have qualms with women in combat roles, but
there are women patriots that have just as much want to
put it all on the line for their country as any man. Therefore,
and you may question the logic, I believe women should
register for the draft. Part of this logic is the fact that I have
a son and daughter --which would you choose to put in
harms way of a combat zone ?
Personally, THANK-YOU men and women of the armed
forces for keeping me and mine secure.
Yep.
With rights come responsibilities.
yes, make them register.
