Intimidation?
Ok kind of long story will make it short as possible. The lady who lives next to me. Found out that a sex offender lives 3 houses down from her and her family. (which I didn't even know) She and her hubby went down and let him know that they were aware of who he was. The man got really mad. Which I understand both sides. They walked back down to my house and was talking to me when the son-in-law of the sex offender came walking down the road. Now everyday he is passing by my house. I feel looking for trouble. But, I didn't do anything. I wasn't there. I know there is laws about public road but, that road ends before my property then turns to gravel in front of my house which is a right away to the two houses behind me and the ditch rider. Can I stop him from walking by. Right now it is just my son and I. Hubby is out of town.

I don't know what state you live in and the laws are different for each state. Most of them allow for either a no-contact order, ex-parte, or protective order to be placed on an individual if you can show that his actions are intended to, "threaten, harass, cause alarm or offend" in some manner. These orders would serve only as a warning to the individual unless they violated the order, in which case they would be cited into court and possibly jailed. This action would be about the only way to get your local law enforcement involved. Start by contacting your city or county attorney's office. Be aware, be smart, don't worry and good luck. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. My door is always open for you.
Not sure,I'd ask your local law inforsement agency.I do know that residents are supposed to be made aware when a sex offender moves into their neighborhood. The only way around it that i know of is if he was never formally convicted. Where I live there is one who's been charged, but not convicted. My land lord knew this before I moved in,but by law could not tell me.I'm a single mom,2 kids. What to do and what I'd recommend to is not let your son play outside unsupervised, which is what was recommended to me.
I understand your concern, particularly as you had nothing to do with the conflict in question. Still, as you say, it is a public road, and you have not been threatened by anyone. Usually it is the sex offender, required to register, who feels a sense of threat, not an innocent neighbor.
You may be making too much out of the situation, but it would not hurt to go to the police to report your fears. They could do nothing except instruct their patrols that you felt threatened, but that might be all you need.
Given a worst-case scenario you ought to have a firearm in the house, and learn to use it, as the police, no fault of theirs, will always arrive too late.
I think the laws pertaining to public, private roads and right of ways vary depending on which state you reside...as are the rights & requirements of sex offenders and the victims of these sick people. I would suggest that you check with your parish/county office~municipality (if in city limits) (out of the city limits~in La~the police jury handles parish roads). It would also depend on if the road has been dedicated to the city or parish/county and who maintains it. Probably this could be found in the Assessor's Office (Assessment Office) or Clerk of Courts where the original map plat books are kept with all recorded property conveyances~at least in my parish they are...but hey...every state varies. I would think that since it is a gravel road being a r/w to other houses behind you that you could probably stop him from walking daily...especially if you are feeling uneasy...BUT please check into your state laws...and maybe even consult an attorney (most do free consultations...believe that or not...lol) Also...remember that we have allowed and given criminals far too many rights and they are not hesitant to protest how unfairly they are being treated. Good luck...and keep safe.
