Since drugs are illegal (our government cares about our health) shouldn't alcohol and cigs be illegal too?
Fatty foods?
Swimming? (a useless activity which leads to drowning)
Tanning? (skin cancer)
Motorcycling?
Recreational boating/flying/driving?
Skateboarding? (I shudder when I see the accidents on television)
Football?
What other ways can our government regulate our personal lives in order to keep us safe?
Answers:
seat belts. Wait, they already do that. Every year the United States government comes out with new laws and regulations to "keep everyone safe" when all it really does it limit the freedoms of millions. The job of a government is not to protect us from ourselves. If I want to commit suicide, it is my choice, if I want to destroy my life with drugs, it is my choice. If i don't want to wear a seat belt and risk death or serious injury, it is my decision. I hurt no one else through any of these things and they should not be illegal. If drugs were made legal, the funding to gangs and terrorists would dwindle. You do not protect anyone by limiting choice when the only damages will be caused to yourself.
A line has to exist, and the reasonable point is DRUGS, not the other items on your list.
they should but these companies pay texas to the government so they can be considered as "good drugs"
yes but the goverment makes too much money form the tax, so theyll never ban somthing they can make a wedge off ! pluse it would only result in a black market type feasco !
Liberalism; a debilitating mental disorder which can lead to drug & alcohol abuse, criminal activity, and homosexuality.
Every way until we make a stand.
The rights of the minorities are being trampled by the tyranny of the majority...but fear not, we shall all soon speak Spanish and have health care for everyone in the world.
Yes. In fact, every man, woman and child has the right to be supplied with an oxygen-supplied-fireproof bubble-suit - enforced by law, because we care about you of course. Afterall, if you get hurt we all have to pay via higher insurance premiums right?
OF COURSE NOT! Who cares if they account for thousands upon thousands of deaths per year. They are easily taxable and make our government lots of money and thats all that matters. Drugs like the soul-destroying marihuana are not easily taxed, and therefore illegal.
What about all the car accidents? And subway, truck, airplane, and train wrecks?
Dog bites? Even cat bites? (The ER people said there are plenty of those).
Roller skating leads to loads of ER visits.
Kids get beaten up, and even killed in school. But even childbirth leads to deaths.
Maybe we should just eliminate humans from the planet. Oh, I guess with all the nukes we're fixing to do that! Oh, OK, then.
Laws like these are always dictated by popular demand. It's not right, but it's true. If the majority of people were against alcohol, there would be laws passed prohibiting it the same as other drugs. But most adults drink alcohol, so it'll never happen. Same way with cigarettes...40 years ago no one would have dreamed of making smoking illegal in public areas or regulating it and taxing it the way it is now (which is entirely unconstitutional).
The laws passed don't have as much to do with the notion of protecting us as they do with satisfying popular demand and opinions. If it were the case that it was in 'our best interest' as they claim, then the laws regulating all drugs would be the same, but they aren't. Likewise, a person who chooses to be overweight would pay higher insurance premiums the same way smokers have to. How many people die every year of diseases caused by being overweight? And how much do insurance companies pay for their care as opposed to someone who makes the choice to smoke? Both are equally harmful to your health and cause health problems.but the day it comes to be that people 20 lbs or more overweight have to pay a higher premium will never come.unless the majority of us start thinking it should ;)
Oh,, there's lots of other ways. How about sex?
Sex spreads STD's AIDS, creates unplanned pregnancies resulting in social welfare programs, jealous lovers killing each other, divorces, broken homes, ect, ect, ect. Then there's the legal issues like gay marriages and abortion,
