Why aren't welfare recipients drug tested?
Answers:
Excellent Question Janet! They should be tested every time they come in to the Welfare office. it it isn't a law it should be. People that work for allot of companies have drug testing. Why not dead beats.
CAUSE EVERYONE DOES DRUGS
No law.
*LOL* Some people draw disability because of drug addictions. What would be the point?
They should be.
if they were, who would we give welfare to?
what is it with you and drug testing? do you want everyone tested? would you pass? do you understand how much this process costs? it's not cheap.
lol
I just saw where you brought up this question.
At least, I think it was you.
I think they should be drug tested. Any one trying to get any sort of government funding like that should be drug tested, because it gives druggies an excuse to spend the money they do have on drugs.
Welfare recipients are not expected to conform to any standard. This type of thing would shorten welfare rolls and put government employees who supervise these programs out of work .
Now try to work a part time job and go to school and ask for a little help and you will be severely reamed if you make any paperwork mistakes that they can prove.
Noah say"Then, maybe we could make certain that these kids have their teeth fixed and get glasses as needed and even have their hearing tested."
Shoot Noah whatever happened to parental responsibility?
Why are people pissing on the poor when we spend $12 billion a month in Iraq? Let's drug test the genius that said the Iraq occupation is worth 12 billion American Dollars a month.
...Now they should be!
I'll see your 'welfare recipiants' and raise you 100 right wing politicians of your choice. Given that 80% of all people 'on welfare' are small children maybe checking them out not only for drugs but for all other physical problems as well might be a good thing. Then, maybe we could make certain that these kids have their teeth fixed and get glasses as needed and even have their hearing tested. On the other hand, 'government' would have to pay for these drug tests and that would amount to 'socialized medicine'...we may have to 'raise taxes' to pay for it as well. Suddenly, it doesn't seem to be such a great idea.
Here's some of the problems with mandating drug testing.
1) The cost is between 15-60 dollars depending upon the panel of drug testing used. Who is going to pay for this.
2) The people you want to get off welfare are the welfare frauds, right? If they are smart enough to know how to beat the system and stay on welfare, it stands to reason that they will know how to beat a drug test.
3) There are always accusations of false positives, and then there is the added cost of a Medical REview officer to check for their medications they state affect the drug test. THen you have the problems with reinstating and removing people based on the medical review.
4) What are your plans about the kids of these drug users? Are you going to force the kids to go without because Mommy is a drug user?
I just see too many problems arising to make this feasible. But if you can figure out how to iron out the problems, then by all means, I think it will be a good idea.
how do you know they aren''t
