Is this a good idea for a major?

I am starting back school in the fall and I am majoring in psychology and my minor is going to be in buisness if I wanted to continue to law school would that be a good idea or would it be better for my minor to be in criminal justice or keep it like it is please someone answer who knows a little about law.

Answers:
Psychology is not a common major for pre-law students, however that being said theres nothing to say you can't major in pyschology and not go to law school. The most common majors for pre-law students are (because they are the most related to the skills and knowledge you will use as a lawyer); history, political science, English, and communications. By far history is the most common major for pre-law students (if the school you are attending does not have a specific 'pre-law' major), followed very closely by political science.

If you really enjoy psychology then you might want to consider making it a minor instead, or, if you really want to, a double major. In all actuality you will want to make one of the above-mentioned areas your major instead of psychology if you are really serious about becoming a lawyer.

If your hope is to go into corporate law or civil law, then go with your choices now. If your hope is for criminal law, then you probably need to change your minor to criminal justice.
Here's the question I would like you to ask yourself: are you thinking of going to law school because you actually have an interest in the law and/or a specific reason you think being a lawyer would fulfill you? Or are you just going because you think the salary would be good?

The reason I'm suggesting this is that a good salary ultimately is not fulfilling if it isn't tied to something else. Believe it or not! There are many lawyers out there making tons of money who are completely unhappy and very unfulfilled in their lives.

One way to figure out what you'd like to do for a career--other than looking at the pay--is to think about what you love and feel passionate about. If you love animals, perhaps be a vet. If you love children, be a teacher. If you love the outdoors, be a landscape architect. Taking only future pay into consideration is the one sure road to an unhappy adulthood.

I realize I haven't answered the question you asked, but I've had almost 40 years of experience with many, many lawyers and have been married to one, and I am trying to share my experience with you in the hope that you may end up with a happier life.
Someone doesn't like their husband ^ ^ ^

But anyway, you may benefit from a criminal justice class if you plan to get into law, anyway, even if they don't require it as a course.
