Should people who harm babies and toddlers be locked up forever?
It has to be one of the worst crimes imaginable, do these people have any hope of rehabilitation or should we just throw away the key?
Answers:
no there is no hope for rehabilitation, and no we shouldnt just throw away the key. we should tie the person up, and let about 20 kids beat him to death with bats and sticks and shovels and crobars.
No crime worse, but that would include late term abortion to me as well.
Lock them up, throw it away and send them into general population. The rest of he inmates will take care of them for us. They HATE baby rapers, pedophiles, etc. and will kill them in an instant if they get the chance.
definitely locked up for a long long time. I would even think life would be appropriate. (not capital punishment) let the bastard suffer for eternity if possible, well, the best we can do for now is life without parole.
Hell yeah... not just babies and toddlers... people who hurt children period... You have pedophiles walking scott free... I think child abuse is just as bad as murder... for the simple fact that when you take away a childs innocence... it's GONE... they can't get that back... just as if you take someone's life they can't get it back... they kind of go hand in hand...and it causes a LOT of suffering for the individual.. so i say people who hurt children in any way... ESPECIALLY pedophiles should be locked under the jail cell
They should be kept away from society for as long as it takes to rehibilitate them. I know the crimes are dreadful but most offenders grew up in a negative environment themselves and were never given much opportunity to seek out higher consciencse or morale alignment.
You don't gain anything by throwing away a life for a life that was thrown away or 'The old rule concerning "an eye for an eye" leaves everyone blind.'
I personally never desire wraith or revenge on criminal elements only encarceration (to keep them from harming more people) and rehabilitation.
I would love that very much. Unfortunately (and realistically) we know that isn't going to happen. And anyway, it would be the rest of NZ that pays to look after that person for the rest of it's life.
Rehabilitation? I doubt it. As a parent or cargiver, you know that beating a child until he or she is unconscious is wrong. As a parent or caregiver, you know that twisting a child's arm until it breaks is wrong. Hell, we all know we shouldn't put our children in a clothes dryer or hang them on the line. If they cared, they wouldn't have done it in the first place. And why give them a second chance to go and possibly kill or harm a child again. These sick mongrels don't deserve second chances! (I'm sorry if my words are a bit strong here).
I'm sorry ... there is no hope.
And I'm really glad you asked this question. NZ is in a bit of a crisis here. How many more does there have to be?? LilyBing, Ngati, Kris and Kruz. Just recently Nia. And those poor little darlings still in Starship fighting for their lives. Lord knows how many more there are and have been.
I know on Wednesday I will be having my 3 minutes silence for all of those darling children that had relied on another human being for love, shelter, comfort, food, clothing, water - all those things that as a Mum I don't even think twice about giving.
And yet these cherubs, simply didn't get it.
I'D SAY 100 YEARS OF JAIL!!!!!
I have to agree with Bugalugs 1976 - these mongrels don't deserve a second chance at life. Why should they when they've taken lives of children so young . Our justice system sucks when grown adults can inflict so much pain and suffering on innocent children who have no chance of standing up for themselves - and the bastards only get ( in Ngati's case - 3 yrs old) 8 years for manslaughter with the possibility of being out in 4! They KNOW what they are doing. They murdered that poor little guy.
It breaks my heart that our children are being treated like this - no child deserves that.
They'll get what's coming for them in the end. Karma is a wonderful thing.
Nah, tie them up in the middle of the city and get the kids to beat them up and see how they like it. They will never change that's all bs when they say they will get help. The damage is done it's too little too late.
Well that depends on the situation honestly, no matter what anyone who hurts a baby or toddler intentionally ought to be locked up for quite a long time. But if the damage was done unintentionally it should depend on the situation.
if its serious and prolonged, rather than an angry reaction yes.
yes that so terrible! it is unbelieveable there are people like that in the world
Ok, here's the crunch, why the hell do the offenders have name suppression and why the hell can they get away with their photos not being printed in the paper because they fear for their lives???. go figure. They should be lined up and shot, I can't think of anything worst than someone harming a child, especially when there are people out there who cry themselves to sleep at night because they are childless. Our government needs to give more funding to CYPFS instead of giving $10,000,000 to a freakin' boat race. People who harm children like the few we've had in the headlines lately, have NO chance of being rehabilitated and should have their cords tied or nuts chopped off anyways so that they can't have the opportunity to do this again.
Death penalty for them.
my best friends baby sister was murdered at age 1 by the babysitter. that happened in 1990. hes still in jail. every 5 years a petition is sent around to be signed to keep him locked up. nowadays in texas its capital punishment and if you kill a child you will get the death penalty.
most pedophiles admit they are a threat to society and should not be allowed in public.
I think they should have a life sentence, a very long life sentence, 40 years min. But our prison system, (NZ) has crap rehabilitation and crime law, here, there is emphasises the crime in relation to breaking the laws of the country, and not the effects of the crime on the victim. This should be addressed. As for rehibilitation, this should be taking place, regardless of wherether or not a prisoner is ever set free. At the momment, they are punished on the basis, that they broke a law.and that people who break laws should be punished. No emphesis would have been given to the victem who suffered under thier hands, so, I think these crimninals should be reminded of this fact, and made to realise what they have done was evil. If there is a sence of universal rehibilitation going on in prison, its no longer going to be a University of Crime, as it is now, and lesser criminals arn't going to come of better at it.
I agree that this IS one of the most despicable things that a human being can do- to harm or kill a child is reprehensible!
But in saying that I believe that education can have an effect and rehabilitation is a great part of that. To have a person who has committed a crime of abuse be correctly assessed, treated and counselled can have greater impact on the community than simply to lock them up and forget them.
I have observed many people who have done shocking things get help and therapy then go on to aid others around them. You can not truly know a thing till you have experienced it for your self.
This is not to say that we all should abuse children to stop abuse, but for people who have this is a wonderful way that they can 'make up' for their mistakes.
Personally, if I had my way, we would all have to be fully educated while still at school about child rearing, their needs and the things to expect so that young people know what they are in for when they have kids.
Well the issue is topical probably globally although in New Zealand it has hit headlines.
The answer hell I don't know but locking them up forever is only going to tax the hell out of you and me and society.
It may seem too late but castration would be a good start and cheaper on tax payer and a definite loss to the offender.
Putting people in prison short or long term can be best described in a silly way.
We society will spend a fortune keeping these characters and pay for their educational needs among all other needs and many may if they do well in prison come out and have a better life than most of the poor workers who paid for their keep and lifestyle whilst locked up as we may smugly believe.
These criminals require less supposed justice and more harm to their person if you can understand what I am saying.
I have no easy answer but something does need to be done that I agree.
Death penalty would be close to what these people deserve but .
The problem is a great part of society is very dysfunctional and that is what needs sorting..
Please note a high percentile of the population hate honest people we call them nark's .
What do you expect from a society that labels honest people in this manner.
Anyone that harms a child should be executed by the most horrific manner possible so they know true terror before they die!
YES! I am for tougher sentences against Child Abusers. Poor babies are generally under the age of 3 and the persons responsible are adults - how disadvantaged is the child - as for the Nia case - putting a 3 year old in a tumble dryer for 30mins just makes me sick - I say put those responsible in the big tumble dryers at laundromats for 30mins and see how they like it - then we errect our own washing line and spin them around on it.i think its just absolutely appalling! All I can say is they'll get their just deserts when they go behind bars and find most of the criminals in there are also against Child Abuse!! and one more thing - big ups to those who took a stand for the 3 mins of silence the other day - I was standing outside our office building.
Hell yeah, lock em and throw away the key!
Even people with a bad or abusive past know the difference between right and wrong. There is just no excuse for it.
