Is there a law for Verbal Abuse in the Workplace?
Answers:
Freedom of speech applies as far as law is concerned; however, most employers have policies that address such issues. Talk with your supervisor; if he/she is the one doing the abusing, then talk with his/her supervisor.
depends on the situation
yea it's not allowed.
Check your company handbook. There should be a section on harrassment in the book. That should include their definition of verbal, physical and sexual harrassment. The handbook also should state what the penalties are and who to contact if you are being harrassed.
sure there is. first start by actually looking into those things that they give us at the beginning of the hiring process called, policys and procedures!
Sorry, Even though verbal abuse hurts just like physical abuse there is not law against it. Matter of fact it's protected on the freedom of speech.
no, there isn't a law. However, most workplaces have it in their own rules that it isn't tolerated. Verbal abuse is hard to prove because most people that are the abusers wont do it in front of someone else. If you have witnesses to it I would suggest you take it to HR or above the persons head to their boss.
Yes, its called Hostile work environment. An EEOC (fair practices officer) can help or contact the Federal office.

"Hostile Work Environment" is the law. This law is pretty useless for the most part to attempt to enforce it.
