Shall Narayan Murthy from Infosys India should be punished for Insulting Indian National Anthem?
Answer:
Definitely. He is not above law irrespective of his intelligent & achievements. When Sachin Tendulkar was caught red handed clearly tampering the cricket ball on TV , many citizens of India blindly favoured Sachin as if he is above basic principles of honesty & justice. Tendulkar was punished for that. The great hero was Mike Deness & Tendulkar was villain, undoubtedly. So is Narayan Murthy.
Absurd Q. should not be answered. The man cannot even think in his dream to do any act contrary to national interest. It is as true as Sun shall rise from east every day.
if the motive could be proved, it is doesn't matter who he are, all are equal before law, no one can be allowed to insult nation anthem & nation flag.
It would be prudent to take a look at the actual incident which triggered off the controversy. Here I quote a news report on the same from IBN Live.
"It all started with President Kalam's visit to the Infosys campus in Mysore on Sunday. As per protocol, the National Anthem was played out, but it was an instrumental version.
Later at a press conference, Murthy explained that it was done to save his foreign guests from embarrassment.
"The original idea was to have five youngsters sing the National Anthem. Then I felt we had several foreigners and we did not want to put them in an embarassing position of them being silent and others singing it, so we decided on the instrumental version. This was fine because the National Anthem need not be sung always. The important thing was to show solidarity and our respect," Narayana Murthy had said.
The clarification saw an almost immediate reaction from local newspapers and several bloggers calling Infosys rootless and a company just interested in profits."
It is clear from the above that Murthy had no intention to dishonour the national anthem.
One more quote from an IBN live news report.
"Murthy has, meanwhile, apologised for his statement.
"We are a proud Indian company, with strong universal ethos of transparency, accountability and honesty. If the media statement has hurt anybody's sentiments, I deeply apologise," he said.
"We did play the instrumental version of the national anthem so that we could all sing along, and all of us did so. We wished to share the pride of being an Indian in the gracious presence of our President. We are informed that this is as per protocol," Murthy said in the statement.
Murthy reiterated that Infosys has always kept the interest of India foremost in the minds and its work speaks for itself."
Corrupt politicians in our country get away with far greater trangressions. Yet, a man who has made his Indian company a brand name in the global software industry and is every inch a proud Indian is hounded for a trivial error. And that too after he has apologised. Terrorists and anti nationals raise Pakistani flags and burn the Tricolour without regret or fear of punishment. But a committed Indian is harassed by unworthy politicians. Obviously these people need an issue to cover up their own immoral acts and deficiencies. The ever gentle Murthy comes across as convenient cannon fodder for them.
Who can save India and Indians, when we are bent on turning the wheels of progress backwards?
There are pending court cases in the matter. Asking such a question and answering the same shall be interference in the processes of administration of justice, by the judiciary.
if he did that then he must be punished
after careful verification based on tv news and news papers and media , it is very sure mr.narayana murthy no where insulted our national anthem. the entire episode starts with mr.narayana murthy's suo motto statement before press. his personel opinion does not touch / voilate any act. facts are differs from law. even if he confess, that does not amounts to voilate the act since there shall be no compromise on principles and laws since he has not committed any offence by voilating any act or rules. we can see the fundemantal right of freedom of speech and expression which is guaranteed by our constitution in part III. we must not put any sudden provocative words against any person by ignoring law of our land. once again , there is a difference between opinion and action ,,,,& facts and laws. one can say mr.narayanamurthy failed to upheld our national anthem before foriegn delegates ( as per mr.narayana murthy's statement ) morally he failed. but now i think he realised. this moral voilation does not put any cause of action.hence he may not be punished.
we must know that human progress is a series of corrected mistakes.
