What are the components of writing a good legal complaint?

Answer:
This is not something you should try at home. The most important component is hiring an attorney to write it for you. The rules of pleading vary from state to state, and sometimes from court to court within the state. And Federal Court is a completely different animal.

Most states require "fact pleading." This is essentially a statement of facts that apprise the defendant of the claims against them. The format again differs from state to state. It is important to remember that it is the plaintiff's job to make sure that they not only tell the story, but that they include factual elements that state a claim or cause of action in that story. If you dont, the complaint can be stricken or subject to a demurrer or similar motion to have the complaint dismissed. So in order to do this, you need to know the elements of the cause of action, and state facts sufficient to satisfy the requirements of pleading that cause of action.

Notice pleading in Federal Court or state courts that use the federal rules of pleading simply requires a statement of each element, without facts required. So you can say "the product was defective and I was damaged," instead of having to insert facts that tend to demonstrate what happened.

In other words, as I said, you should not try this at home if it's a serious matter. You may be dismissed with prejudice, meaning you cant refile, and lose your claim.

can start with the basic law school: IRAc : issue rule analysis and conclusion,

but in general a good complaint will start with the facts, outline the state statute and in the end request restitution in some matter, for each infraction should be its own count, so you could have an one count complaint or many count complaint depending on the subject
