Marijuana. Should it be legal?
This is kinda like a survey. Just want to know what the american public thinks on this subject. Should Marijuana be legal are should't it? Please be honest and respectful. I am doing research on it , so if you can back up your facts please do. If you think it should would you stand up and vote for it?
Answers:
Yes it should. Or alcohol and toboacco shoud be outlawed. They all three pose about the same health risk. Marijuana is not good for you by any stretch, but it is less harmful than tobacco (when smoked moderately) and alcohol. All three can lead to health problems. I have always thought the stigma against marijuana is much more a political agenda than an actual health concern. If the governent was that worried about our health, they would ban alcohol, tobacco, most fast food, and would make sure we all had health care.
I am nuetral, because it can go both ways.
if it is legal then everyone would easily obtain the drug and use it, damaging everyone's health, or killing others by slipping it into their coffee, making it much easier to use it against others.
if it if illegal, ppl get around the law and obtain it through online sites to purchase it or bring it from Mexico or something.
so as you can see, it is not an easy topic to pick a side on.
I think the laws are good the way they stand. For medical puposes it can be of good use, but I certainly would hate the international and criminal effect if it was fully legalized.
Yes, prohibition didn't work for alcohol. It should be treated accordingly with other legal narcotics. It's by choice if you want to use marijuana.
No way.
yes it should, and the government could tax it, and make some money on something that is not as bad as people think, or they only believe the one sidedness of it, without having any knowledge of the actual effects. i smoke everyday, and have no problems, i dont go and try to kill anyone, hurt anybody while im doing it, and it has not affected me, killiong brain cells and whatnot...ive smoked pretty regularly for about 10 years or so, and im doing well in college, making the deans list this past semester. so yes, legalize it, its not that damn bad, honestly
Yes. This is a no brainer. Millons of dollars less spent by state and federal angencies on enforcement and prosecution, which would be better spent going after meth or junk. On the other side of the coin millions of dollars in tax revenue could be raised and you would be creating an entirely new market with companies which might be publically traded so the wealth could be spread around. Morals smorals, legalize and reap the profits.
Marijuana will be legal if the government can put an excise tax on it, in the same manner as tobacco tax.
While scientists are correct in their findings about the dangerous effects of excessive marijuana use on health, there had been no indication of ill effects when marijuana is used minimally or moderately.
Putting it in the same context as tobacco and cigarette smoking (which we all know causes lung-cancer, liver disorder, and makes the the body addicted to nicotine), yet it is legal to smoke cigarette or tobacco despite these dangerous effects on the body system. Why?.
sure. why not? it can't be responsible for any more deaths than alcohol. if the government could control marijuana it would be legal. if it is a matter of numbers killed then arent the alcohol related deaths and spouse/child abuse case numbers high enough ? the federal and local government get a lot of tax dollars on alcohol as well as an incredible amount of money from fines from arrested marijuana users. legalize today---get high tonight!
I think it should be "legal" but have the same restrictions as alcohol or tobacco because technically it does impair your judgement and driving but it honestly doesn't do anymore harm than alcohol or tobacco. I don't know about voting for it though... i've never really thought about it, but i probably would vote if that was the case.
And for the facts on the effects : http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/ca...
legalize it! all the way. its legal in canada and the netherlands, those are the only places i know and their countries havent suffered any from it. so y not? and i would vote for it any time given the oppurtunity, in fact if Mike Gravel makes it to the final 2 in the election of 2008 im voting for him cuz he wants to legalize it. plus he wants to put a stop to the war in iraq, and get rid of income tax. im voting for him if he makes it.
