This is a personal injury case and an intentional tort. That's important, because if you win a judgment you cannot lose it if the defendant files bankruptcy. The lawyer you talked to gave you bad advice. I've won a large judgment on a case with similar facts and collected most of it. We can't recommend a lawyer for you because we don't know where you live. I believe the best way to get a good attorney is to ask everyone you know for a referral. If that doesn't work, call your state bar office and ask if they have a referral service. My state does. If that doesn't work, look in the yellow pages under "personal injury" attorneys. DO NOT chose someone who advertises on TV. These are personal injury mills and their goal is to settle cases quickly, not fairly.
"Impossible to collect any money since it was intentional?" That's a new one on me! Doesn't sound right. Get some other legal advice.
The guy who did that to you should be paying you out of his salary for the rest of his life.
You totally have a case. Call the bar association in your area or look in the yellow pages for a personal injury lawyer who can work on contingency and sue them for medical damages due to an intentional tort.
I don't know what idiot lawyer told you that you couldn't collect money -- intentional infliction makes it worse ... and easier to collect money.
