Discrimination challenge?
It seems like every other day, someone is filing a discrimination suit against an organization that has denied them entry. As a hypothetical situation, if I were to start up a club for left handed people, could a right handed person file a discrimination suit for being denied membership? How about a group for balding men and a guy with a full head of hair wanted to join?
Answer:
It's only discrimination when a group says membership is wide open, but chooses only one type of person. So, if the group says, "Left-handers Only", then it's obvious that only left-handers would be welcome as members. That's not discrimination, it's private membership. But, let's say they called themselves "Lefties and Righties - The United Hands Across America Association" and they're an employer or institution of higher learning, alleged to be open to everyone for legal reasons. If they only let lefties in, that would be discrimination.
I think it's pretty clear cut. And I think that's pretty much how it works in real life...legally speaking. And for the record, I agree with it.
Private clubs can have any restrictions they want. By the way, I qualify for the left-handed bald guy club. Where do I sign up?
Well, if your right handed, then you cant join, duh, thats the rules. If its privately owned, no problem. Same with American citizenship, if youre a border jumper, you cant join.
In your suggestions, you might be OK. It would be similar to an all female gym. They can restrict membership. Organizations are a bit different and discrimination applies differently there.
If your institution receives public funds, then I'd say it wouldn't work. But it's worth a try. I'd like to see more of these exclusive clubs to test the absurdity of some of these lawsuits.
The world is full of discrimination suites. I cant make up my mind on which ones to join.
All that some real stupid Bull-crap you all are bored ! Get a life with some real questions. Matter a fact?? Go try to get some A-- ??? I bet you won't get it .
Make a policy in the organization that prospective members may not request entry, rather they have to be brought in by current members (sponsored), in accordance with all members who had to abide the same agreement upon being sponsored when they were invited in.
why would a man with hair want to join a group or club of men with bald heads, i think your missing the point.
i know here in the UK a golf club and a working mans club that will not allow black members, everyone knows it you wont find IT in there book of rules, but its a unwritten rule, i think it stinks in the 21st century and i would not be a member of the said clubs but for none white people this is no joke its real and its still there
