Last name change?
years ago after my mother married my sister's father she had my last name changed so that i would match theirs...i've wanted to change it for some years now but always thought that my sister's father had adopted me and that's how i got his last name but after finally getting a copy of my birth certificate i found that it was just a legal name change by my mother in the state of texas and i was born in oklahoma...my father's side is blank that is one of the reasons my mother has been so uncooperative...i do not have anything to do with my sister's family since years ago they said i was no relation to them and we've avoided contact with each other...do i need to have my last name changed back in Texas where the legal change was made or in my state of birth? and if anyone has any past experiences with a similar situation please fill me in on what to expect...thanks

Anyone can change their last name for whatever reason. You might have to deal with some legal issues but if that is what is on your birth certificate then you can change it
I had a friend in high school that had his step father's last name and a couple of years out of school he had is changed back to his bio. father's name. So I know it can be done.
Name change is recorded in the county you are legally residing in and applies to all states.
The first post is correct. If you change your name in Jones County OK it is effective everywhere. You need not go to Texas to change. However, you might not be able to change your name again. When my daughter changed her name she was told that it could be done only once unless she became married or divorced. I would check you state laws.

A person shall not change the person's name more than once under this chapter unless just cause is shown. However, in a decree dissolving a person's marriage, the person's name may be changed back to the name appearing on the person's original birth certificate or to a legal name previously acquired in a former marriage. You make you name change in the state you currently live.
Google your current state + name change and you will be taken to the site for name change forms and name change law. Good luck.
I don't know where the Arizona Penguin lives, but I do know that you can change your name legally anywhere in the US at any time.
Pay the fee and go on. There is no limit on how many times you can do this. After a while it does get costly, so if money is no object, change it as often as you want.
