Well what I would do is try to see if you can look up his name or his parents last name on the internet and try to track him down as to where he lives. Then you can go confront him if you want.
But be careful because your not the police, he can call the police and have them remove you for harrasment.
If you find him, call him and go over to his house for a couple days, and act like there's nothing wrong, make it look inconspicuous. And try to steal it back. However if you call him, do NOT mention the Ipod.
You might want to hope and pray then. You need to do a little bit more detective work now.
If you know for certain he took it...you can go down to the commissioner's office and swear out a statement of charges and the sheriffs will arrest him (if they can find him) or they will put out a warrant for his arrest
Are you SURE he stole it? There's not much people can do with a lone iPod...ie, no software or connectors.
But to answer your question, contact your credit card company that you purchased it with, They offer warranties and purchase assurance against damage and theft.
File a police report, possibly claim a casualty/theft loss on your taxes, and buy a new ipod.
