I thought AT&T was broken up due to anti trust laws how has it returned?
Answers:
Our current governmet has no desire to enforce anti trust laws.
Just look at microsoft. and Rupert Murdoch.
Until the people start pushing the politicians for change, we will continue to see more and more of companies linking forces to rebuild monopolies..
AT&T is a combination from BellSouth and SBC. SBC bought out AT&T, then bought BellSouth. SBC changed the name to AT&T because AT&T is a worldwide name compared to either BellSouth and SBC>There is three major phone companies left. I do not see either Verizon or AT&T buying each other out, nor the government letting any more gtet bought out.
SBC bought the old at&t and then decided to use it name. Then the new at&t bought bellsouth annd snice bell south co-owned cingular with the new at&t it changed cingular to at&t.
Really its just a name not the same company back in the 80s.
Because now, they do not have 100% of the market.
They won't be able to buy Verizon (which bought MCI).
And if they do, I will switch to cell only.
If they buy my cell company, I will revert to 2 tin cans and a piece of string!
It was broken up. It had 23 operating companies----the Regional Bell Operating Companies. It divested itself of all or most of those companies. In short, it got out of the local phone company business entirely.
